Howard County lost a true community giant with the recent passing of Grace Kubofcik, a woman whose influence shaped the political, civic, and environmental landscape of our area for more than six decades.

Grace wasn’t a politician, but in many ways, she was the conscience of Howard County politics. She was a constant presence at County Council and Planning Board meetings, always ready with thoughtful questions and a deep understanding of the issues that mattered to residents. Whether she was advocating for affordable housing, environmental conservation, or historic preservation, Grace brought clarity, consistency, and compassion to everything she did.

She served as president of the League of Women Voters and was deeply involved with the Howard County Citizens Association, where she helped residents stay informed and engaged in local governance. Her legacy includes not just the policies she helped shape but the countless people she mentored and encouraged along the way.

Grace was known for speaking truth to power—always with civility, but never backing down. She believed deeply in the importance of informed civic participation, and she lived that belief every day.

A Celebration of Life was held on July 11, and in lieu of flowers, donations were encouraged to the Howard County Conservancy, one of the many causes she held dear.

We encourage you to read the full obituary published by The Baltimore Banner, which captures the depth of Grace’s impact far better than we could in a single post.
