Shared living houses and partner-owned properties managed by HHP

In 1988, HHPC developed a group home acquisition and property management program for physically and mentally challenged individuals. Supported Living, Inc. (SLI) and Residential Opportunities, Inc. (ROI) resulted from a consortium of agencies comprised of the Howard County Association of Retarded Citizens (HCARC), Adaptive Living, Catholic Charities, HUMANIM, and HHPC. State, county, and federal financing — including HUD's 811 PRAC program — funded SLI's 18 group homes and ROI's seven group homes. Each property houses three residents and a counselor.

Growing the Partnership

1998 — HHPC and HUMANIM were awarded a grant to develop Transitional Housing Resources, Inc. (THRI), which purchased three SLI group homes.

2000 — HHPC partnered with Adaptive Living to develop Progressive Housing Partners, Inc. (PHPI), purchasing three additional SLI homes.

2002 — HHPC and HUMANIM established Access Homes, Inc. (AHI), purchasing two SLI group homes.

2007 — A CDBG grant funded a major renovation of an ARC-occupied group home, incorporating Universal Design elements and energy-conserving "green" upgrades.

2008 — A HOME Program loan funded a new handicap-accessible group home — the first to earn the Platinum Standard from the National Home Builders Association and LEED certification from the U.S. Green Building Council.

2010 — BB Homes was established: two homes providing housing to six residents, arranged by HHPC.

St. Matthew House

HHPC manages St. Matthew House in the Kings Contrivance Village Center in Columbia, MD. Built under the HUD 811 program in 1998 specifically to provide affordable housing for 15 physically disabled residents, it is one of a handful of such properties in the country. There are 15 one-bedroom units with kitchenettes. The secure building has common areas including a living room with a large flat-screen TV and fireplace, a dining room, and a fully furnished kitchen. Monthly events are available to residents. St. Matthew House is for single adults only.

St. Matthew House Waiting List — Now Open

In accordance with the HUD-approved Affirmative Fair Housing Marketing Plan, St. Matthew House announces the opening of its waiting list. This is an income-based rental housing property for persons with physical disabilities, located near restaurants, stores, and public transportation at 7261 Eden Brook Drive, Columbia. 15 one-bedroom barrier-free units; all utilities and Wi-Fi covered; laundry on-site. Income limit: 30% of Baltimore AMI, currently $25,700.

  • ID (copy) and Social Security Card (copy)
  • Proof of income (4–6 consecutive paystubs)
  • SSA/SSI award letter dated within 120 days
  • Current bank statements (checking and savings, if applicable)
  • Birth certificate (copy)
